Undisclosed Location — In an exclusive interview, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan leader Hakimullah Mehsud, admitted that much of his aggression towards allies of the West and innocent civilians stems from a strained relationship with his father. “He was very emotionally closed off,” said the amir of the TTP.
It was a rare, unguarded moment in which the drone-attack survivor revealed a side of him that few had ever seen.
“I read an interview recently with Dr. Spock’s son,” he continued, “who said that his father was so busy writing books on how to raise other people’s babies, that he never took the time out to hold his own. It really struck a chord with me.” This was followed by a prolonged silence and a tear from his right eye, interrupted only by the intermittent sound of anti-aircraft gunfire outside the undisclosed location.
Finally, after several minutes spent staring into the middle-distance, he continued, “Maybe…maybe it would be different if he had just told me he loved me. Or he was proud of me. Or…even…even just hugged me. It can make a lot of difference. It’s a non-verbal way of saying ‘I love you, son’. That’s why I always hug all the boys who are fighting for jihad in my organization…before they put on the suicide bomb jackets, of course,” he said with a laughter that sounded far from happy.
“In the West they are hugging all the time. Every movie has fathers hugging their sons. I can’t watch CATCH ME IF YOU CAN because of the scene where Christopher Walken hugs Leo. It makes me cry. And want to kill all Americans. Why couldn’t I get what the infidels were getting? WHY?”, said Mehsud who was now almost overflowing with emotions and was clearly having a tough time holding back his tears.
At that point the interview was interrupted by a drone attack.
